This paper outlines the vision and goals of a graduate student in psychology in the context of preparing to become a certified ADHD parent Coach/Consultant in order to make a difference in the lives of these children and their families.

However, an undergraduate degree in psychology does not adequately prepare a person to practice in the field and a graduate degree is needed. My future career vision as a psychology practitioner/scholar is to be an ADHD parent Coach/Consultant. Coaching/Consulting is a collaborative, action oriented partnership designed to help people make the changes that they wish to make in their lives. An ADHD Coach/Consultant is a life coaching specialty that is designed to address the unique concerns of individuals who are diagnosed with ADHD. As a certified ADHD Coach/Consultant with special training in ADHD coaching I would be fully trained in the research regarding ADHD coaching and treatment, diagnostic issues of ADHD (for all three subtypes) and able to ascertain the most empirically -- validated effective treatment plans for working with children who have been diagnosed with ADHD and other related issues.
