However, there are empirically -- validated interventions that can help these children. This paper outlines the vision and goals of a graduate student in psychology in the context of preparing to become a certified ADHD parent Coach/Consultant in order to make a difference in the lives of these children and their families.

There are many opportunities for those practicing in the field of psychology today. However, an undergraduate degree in psychology does not adequately prepare a person to practice in the field and a graduate degree is needed. While achieving an undergraduate degree in psychology requires a study of many different subspecialties in psychology, the attainment of a graduate degree is typically more specialized and career -- oriented. My future career vision as a psychology practitioner/scholar is to be an ADHD parent Coach/Consultant. Coaching/Consulting is a collaborative, action oriented partnership designed to help people make the changes that they wish to make in their lives. An ADHD Coach/Consultant is a life coaching specialty that is designed to address the unique concerns of individuals who are diagnosed with ADHD. As a certified ADHD Coach/Consultant with special training in ADHD coaching I would be fully trained in the research regarding ADHD coaching and treatment, diagnostic issues of ADHD (for all three subtypes) and able to ascertain the most empirically -- validated effective treatment plans for working with children who have been diagnosed with ADHD and other related issues.
